When I think back to my first years in games and animation, my training came from manuals and magazines – there were very few resources for understanding and using technology and software. The internet was slow and limited, and platforms like YouTube, Reddit and Discord were still in development. I learnt by trial and error! And that’s fine when a technology is in its early years and demand is growing.
It wasn’t until I got my first job and was surrounded by like-minded artists that my learning really took off! I had friends and colleagues who shared ideas, encouraged me to dig deeper, and had projects that pushed me to new heights.
We really value in-person training at Cloth Cat Academy and have always taken on trainees for our animation projects. The Academy is designed to give that studio experience with a dedicated tutor to up-skill graduates and professionals to give them the boost they need to be ready for new projects and ventures.
You can be a part of a working studio – chat to the Cloth Cat crew and ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask. We’re even offering a hybrid solution so you can always be online with the tutor and the other students through Discord wherever you are!
We’re not in a race – we’re all on a journey and everyone benefits from success. In Wales and the UK we have a unique opportunity to build the next generation of talent. Already on our courses, we’ve seen the benefits of students having direct access to experienced practitioners, professionals who have a deep understanding of the software and how to use it in production.
We want everyone to be ready to jump into a project and be able to focus on the creative, not the technical. Animators who really get to grips with Toon Boom, CelAction and Moho, games developers who understand how to build a Unity project quickly and with an agile framework.
We want Cloth Cat Academy to be an engine of new talent – it’s our opportunity to enrich the community and share our knowledge with the next generation.
