Animation Strand at Cardiff Independent Film Festival 2016
We’re very excited to announce that for the first time since the 1990s, Cardiff will host a dedicated festival screening for animated films. With the support of UK animation companies Cloth Cat Animation, Winding Snake Productions and Joanna Quinn of Beryl Productions, Cardiff Animation Nights is bringing a brand new animation strand to the award-winning Cardiff Independent Film Festival (C.I.F.F.) in April 2016.
Cardiff Animation Nights runs highly popular bimonthly screenings of independent animation from around the world, and these events always attract huge interest from animation and media professionals, students, graduates and enthusiasts. Director of Cardiff Animation Nights, Lauren Orme, is now taking the Cardiff animation scene to the next level by introducing this new animation strand to C.I.F.F.
Cardiff Independent Film Festival is an annual event run every April by a non-profit organisation of Wales-based filmmakers. The most recent event in 2015, hosted at Chapter cinema, included a selection of international features and shorts, along with networking events, masterclasses and Q&As with legendary filmmakers Stephen Frears and John Boorman.
Alistair Parkhurst, director of Cardiff Independent Film Festival, says ‘We’ve screened animation at C.I.F.F. before and indeed our first Best Short award was for an animated film so it makes sense to have a dedicated animation strand. We are aiming to grow the festival a little every year so we were delighted when Lauren approached us. I’m very much looking forward to seeing the submissions.’
Animated film submission for the festival is now open, and we’d strongly encourage all animators to consider submitting their films. This is an exciting chance to be part of the first ever C.I.F.F. animation strand, have films judged on an international scale and screened to festival audiences (with the nice added bonus of a low entry fee!) Open to entrants around the world, and permitting multiple entries, it’s a fantastic opportunity and not one to be missed.
The final submission deadline for film entries is Friday 8th January 2016. Check out the Cardiff Animation Nights website and the Cardiff Independent Film Festival website for more details on eligibility and how to submit films. Good luck!
More details to follow about the 2016 C.I.F.F program and screenings as soon as they are released – check back here for updates as they happen.
